In what’s one of the stranger bit of news to pop up recently, the former ‘King of Pop’ – yes, Michael Jackson himself – is coming next week to the Ukrainian capital, where he’ll be the first to receive the just-minted Order of the Holy Archangel Michael from the Ukrainian Cultural Fund. According to the Fund’s president, Vlad Baginsky, the award will be given yearly to someone who’s played a big role in the development of world culture, science, and art, and also to people who are involved in charity. Baginsky said the Fund initiated the award to attract the attention of donors who can help the Fund in its work helping needy children. In a related development, the singer has donated a heap of money to the Ukraine-3000 Fund, which deals with children’s issues and works in partnership with the cultural fund.
Jackson, of course, has his own notorious issues with children: the last time the flagrantly eccentric recluse imposed himself on the public consciousness was a couple years ago, when he stood trial for allegedly molesting some of the children with whom he likes to surround himself at Neverland, his estate/theme-park in California. Jackson got off the hook on that rap, and now he’s apparently flying from sunny Santa Barbara into the frosty winter Ukrainian capital to pick up a deluxe trinket that’s described as consisting of a 16-point star filled out with platinum and decorated with 37 diamonds and eight rubies. The Ukrainian Cultural Fund, by the way, has as its mission supporting talented Ukrainian youth, boosting Ukraine’s image around the world and developing charitable giving here. Former James Bond actor Roger Moore is apparently a nominee to receive the Order of the Holy Archangel Michael next year."

International Children Center “Artek” under Patronage of the State Administration of the President of Ukraine and Ukrainian Cultural Fund and company “Akula Music” have established new award
The Award of the Holy Archangel Michael will be first time awarded to the well known entertainer Michael Jackson
The Ukrainian Cultural Fund and the Company “Akula Music” initiated the organisation of a yearly ceremony of awarding the honory sign of the Holy Archangel Michael. The ceremony will take place every year. The honory sign will be given to famous people, who’s life career in culture, science and art is well known all over the world. The nomination of honored people will be made by a jury of the Ukrainian Cultural Fund - authorized appointed experts from different fields of culture, church and art:
• Vlad Baginskji – President Ukrainian Cultural Fund
• Andreij Benkendorf (Chairman of Committee) – well known film regisseur
• Lolita Miljawskaja (member of Committee) – singer
• Boris Nowoshylow (member of Committee) - Director of Children Center Artek
• Oleg Pintschuk (member of Committee) – artist
• Egor Benkendorf (member of Committee) – Theater regisseur
• Alekseij Dewejew-Tserkovnyi (member of Committee) – TV Anchorman
The first who will receive the sign of Holy Archangel Michael is the famous singer and entertainer Michael Jackson. He will receive the honour for his contribution to charity and his lifework. Nominated for the second award next year is the well known actor Sir Roger Moore.
The Ukrainian Cultural Fund was founded to encourage talented youth and to popularize the Ukraine in the world and to develop the charity in Ukraine. The Fund has arranged an awarding ceremony, which will be hold every year in the International Children Center “Artek”. The partner of the Ukrainian cultural fund in sphere of charity is the International welfare fund « Ukraine – 3000 », Fund of the President of Ukraine, who since 2001 realised important charity projects and programs in the field of history, culture and church.
The award has the form of the 16-coal star made of platinum and is decorated with 37 brilliants and 8 rubies.
